Ammanford & District Angling Association was born back in 1927 when a
group of local anglers realized the need to establish a club that would
enable them to hold on to the water that was available at that time for
the local population to enjoy. Had this not happened we might not be
enjoying the wonderful river we have today. We have some eight miles of
fishing along the rivers Loughor and Amman stretching down stream from
Llandybie to Hendrewen near Pontardulais. The club holds competitions
for seniors and juniors throughout the year and fly tying lessons
throughout the winter. Although renown as a Sea Trout river the Loughor
was once a great Salmon water with many coracles working the lower
reaches at Pontardulais with their catch to be sold at Swansea fish
market. In recent years we have seen an improvement in water quality
which in turn has given rise to a boom in the otter population on the
Loughor as well as the many other species like the darting

kingfisher
and dipper. Hopefully this in turn will follow on to the fish we strive
to catch.
The Loughor, a gem of a river.
